Notes from the Founder
A total eclipse, the rare comet Nishimura, the opportunity to see aurora borealis from the midwest, and Earth Day! The universe has certainly been making its own music lately!
We’ve been enjoying being a part of it and taking the hint to continue sharing ours! We have been in business for many moons – 24 moons exactly! May 22nd marks our second trip around the sun! Let’s get you up to date on how we’ve been spending the days recently as we’re quickly approaching our second anniversary.
We enjoyed being a part of a party celebrating the recent eclipse at Storypoint in Troy, booking one of our favorite partner musicians, Pinnacle Ridge (who is featured in our musician spotlight below.) We were also there in person to lead an outdoor interactive music session with a fun and timely playlist including songs like, “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Walking on Sunshine,” and “Space Cowboy.” A good time was certainly had by all at this once-in-a-lifetime event!
Valentine’s Day and Saint Patrick’s Day were big events for us too! We appreciated
being a part of Optimized Senior Living’s festivities on February 14th and thank
volunteer Ted Eltzroth for preparing and leading a wonderful program, and for sharing both his beautiful voice and his gift of relating so well with seniors. The big hit was when he involved the residents in his presentation of “L.O.V.E.” by Sinatra!
Saint Patrick’s Day is another of our favorite holidays.  We appreciate our partner
musicians who put together themed programs as well as Dwyer Irish Dance,
McGovern Dance, and Nugent Irish Dance for allowing us to book some of their
shows around the area. As you can imagine, they are so busy during that season.
One of the dance troupes told us they had over 37 shows in one week! Our very
own interactive music specialist, Cathy, graced some seniors with her harp. She is multi-talented and we are so “lucky” (see what I
did there?) to have her on staff.
We look forward to many more fun holidays with our clients, staff, families,
community, and of course and most importantly – the residents and senior living
and older adults that we serve.

with the blessing and help by the God of the universe and all things in it!

Fast Forward!
Did somebody say PODCAST? Â YES!
We have recorded our first podcast!  As we embark on this exciting new media journey, we aim to open the world to “all things seniors – all things music.”Â
We will hosts guests that will bring diverse perspectives and engaging conversations about their work with seniors and the benefits of music for older adults. Â
We thank Brett Greenwood, director of the Centerville Community Chorus, for being our very first guest.  Watch our first episode here to learn more about them and their free upcoming concert on May 25th.Â

The Eclipse Party @Â StoryPoint Troy
The Eclipse Party at StoryPoint Troy was truly amazing! It was an incredible experience, with entertainment provided by Pinnacle Ridge, as we gathered to witness the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024.
The afternoon was filled with a sense of wonder and excitement as the moon gradually obscured the sun, creating a mesmerizing celestial event. Laughter and chatter filled the air, blending with the music playing in the background. It was a day to remember, bringing together friends, family, and community members.
Cinco de Mayo with Symphony at Centerville & Bobby Tee
The Symphony at Centerville had a fantastic time celebrating Cinco de Mayo with their “Margaritas with Mom Fiesta.” We’re happy to have booked our partner musician, Bobby Tee, who played Tejano music as the residents savored steak fajitas, chicken tacos, and chips with queso and salsa. The residents had a blast hitting the pinata as well!
Interactive Music Program @Â The Courtyard at Troy
Krissy and Eva had a vibrant afternoon on May 8, moving and grooving in an Interactive Music Program at The Courtyard at Troy. Â During the session, residents had the opportunity to experiment with various instruments like drums and ukuleles, and some even joined in for a dance!

A Little Pitchy
We are pitching you the idea to join us in bringing joy and smiles! Â
We have amazing times visiting and singing at area senior living facilities. Â Joining our voluntary choir is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, indulge your love for music, and give back to the community!
We are seeking more sing-along choir members! Our group is entirely voluntary, and we currently visit the Courtyard at Troy and Brookdale Piqua and Greenville. We aim to extend our reach in Greenville, so please help spread the word to your contacts at Greenville facilities and inform them firsthand that we are eager to bring sing-along music to their residents.
Whether you’re a seasoned performer or someone who simply enjoys singing, we welcome you to join us and share your voice. For those who may be interested, check out our latest activities on our Senior Music Connection Sing-Along Choir Volunteer Facebook page and/or sign up here.
Quarterly Measures
From March to early May, we conducted an impressive 106 interactive music sessions and booked 22 partner musicians at senior living facilities!Â
Another statistic to share (for all you face bookers out there!) our page is up to 328 followers! Â Invite your friends to like and follow us! Â Let’s get to 400 by the end of summer! Â
Here’s to an eventful summer ahead as we are looking forward to continuing our mission of enriching the lives of older adults by providing engaging and fulfilling musical experiences.

Musician Spotlight
This spring, our spotlight shines on the Pinnacle Ridge Bluegrass Band. Familiar to our readers through their collaborations with the Senior Music Connection, Pinnacle Ridge is renowned for spreading happiness among our partners’ residents.Â
Based in the greater Dayton, OH region, the band frequently graces bluegrass festivals and various concerts in the area.
Their performances never fail to captivate audiences of all ages, with their infectious energy and heartfelt melodies. With their harmonious sounds echoing through the rolling hills of Ohio, Pinnacle Ridge continues to be a beacon of joy and unity in the local music scene. Their dedication to spreading happiness through music serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the power of shared moments of musical magic.

Sync Up
In 2024, Senior Music Connection introduced our new Spotify platform, showcasing playlists including 1950s and 1960s Top Hits. These playlists extended into the spring, with monthly sets celebrating national holidays and spreading joyous spring vibes.
During March, we celebrated Women’s History Month with “I am Woman,” showcasing songs by iconic female artists such as Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, and other groundbreaking musicians.
With April came “Here Comes the Sun” with cheerful, sunny tunes to enjoy while strolling amidst blooming flowers and sunshine. Tune in to “There She Goes” by The La’s or “Build Me Up Buttercup” by the Foundations to bring on the good weather.
